"Helping"

Simon recently discovered the dishwasher, and really enjoys "helping" unload the silverware.

Putting the silverware on the floor kind of defeats the purpose, but he has fun, so we won't complain!

A weekend at the Lake

We spent this past weekend having lots of fun at Gilbert Lake!

Simon was happy on the way there as long as he could play with Mommy's car keys:

That was pretty tiring though:

The rest of us had homemade reubens for lunch - Simon had a sandwich of the rye bread and swiss cheese and loved it!

We also went out for a walk with Aunt Biz and Grandma Karen:

And for Simon's first boat ride with the Earnests!

He was not quite as sure about driving the boat himself:

Pulling up

Simon has started pulling himself up on everything he possibly can. I got him to demonstrate here by putting some of his favorite toys, the strap for the digital camera and one of his socks, up on the window sill! I love the way he carefully lets himself back down - he's pretty good about this in general. (Apologies for the terrible lighting, the sun was coming right in the window...)

Mischief

I let Simon play with the pots & tupperware in our kitchen cabinet again... this time he took things to a whole new level!

A BIG new toy!

Grandma Barb, Grandpa Jim and Great-Grandma Minnie came in for an afternoon visit this past weekend. We grilled out for lunch and had a really great time seeing them. A highlight for Simon was a new toy - a kiddie pool! We blew it up inside and he had great fun throwing his toys in and climbing in after them.

Thanks for the fun gift!

Our little peanut

We had Simon's overdue 9-month appointment this past week. The vital stats: 18 lb. 0 oz, and 27 inches. This confirms what we already knew - he's a peanut. He used to be around the 25th percentiles for length and weight, but has now slipped to the 5th percentiles. This is perhaps not surprising since he'd been either sick or on antibiotics for the two weeks before his appointment. His doc is not worried at all, but encouraged us to give him as much as he's willing to eat. (Which we always have done!) Other than that, he's hit all the right developmental milestones, so yay Simon! And he dealt with his one shot (last Hep B) like a champ.

And thankfully, his appetite finally returned with a vengeance this weekend, and he ate and drank up a storm.

These photos are for Jonathan... if you can read the full text of the shirt through the three photos, you'll see it says "UC Santa Cruz Banana Slugs." :) This was a hand-me-down from Zoe and Owen - fits perfectly right now! (Though as you can see in the photos, he crawled right out of his jeans just before these photos....)

He's a peanut, but he's sure a happy peanut!

Reading

Simon discovered the pile of magazines in the bathroom this week.

What fun!

A long week

Well it's been quite the week in the Reynolds-Ryba house. Simon got sent home from daycare on Monday with a fever. At first it seemed like just a virus, but by Thursday it was clear that something more was going on. Sure enough, he had an ear infection and a case of pinkeye (the pinkeye we could obviously see...) He also popped his first tooth this week, and is clearly about to sprout the second. We are hoping he's had enough doses of antibiotics in him that he turns a corner today. We're very grateful to Grandpa Tom for driving in from Minneapolis to spend Thursday and Friday home with Simon, so Troy and I didn't have to take yet more time off on only our second week of our new jobs.

But anyway, pictures from better times! Simon discovered the cabinets with the pots and pans earlier this week, and was pretty excited about it:

Love this last one. "Darn, she caught me!"
